First, when we arrived at the airport, Lisa gave us each our personalized package including a copy of our passport to carry with us,
an envelope to put in each safe with copies of all of our passports,
a detailed itinerary (with the last days blank as it seemed redundant to put lounge on beach with cocktails for 3 days,
and multiple pages of road signs so we'd know them as we drove (and I'm surprised sloth crossing was not first on the list!).
Then, as I was driving like a maniac, I wasn't aware Jen and Muma were in the back seat and as Jen put it she was holding o to the oh Jesus handle and Muma was gripping the door for dear life. I only noticed because I hit a curve and heard Muma make an oomph kind of sound as she was slammed into the door. I really need to get video of the drive back!
When we arrived they gave us wrist bands with our room number on it. They said it was so we could charge to our room but consensus is its more likely an if found please return to room# notice.
We were in bed at like 8PM too.
So today Danny from Arenal Rafting called at 7:30 to confirm picking us up for rafting. He is VERY energetic! We were picked up at 8:30 and we were off to pick up the rest of the people. Our group included a couple from Alaska, an uncle and niece from London, a dads and 2 sons from California and 2 girls from Florida and a guy from Spain. It was about an hour drive total. We had to drive down a crazy rocky dirt road for part of it and Lisa and I are thinking we should bring Juan Paco down to drive it.
Sadly I was told no GoPro allowed so I have no pictures yet but Lisa took a few from her phone and we ordered their pics so, once we can download some, we can post.
As far as the day went, we arrived at the river and, after getting our gear and such, we were broken into 3 teams. The 4 of us were one boat. Alex was our guide and he was fun although had really bad timing. As we pulled away from shore (and we were the last of the 3 boats to take off) he decides that's a good time to tell us he fell out of the boat the week before. Once we saw the pics at the end of the day we saw why. As we were going over Rapids he was jumping up in the back!
We were in the blue boat (or as Lisa called it the abuse boat). Everyone, even other tour companies, kept starting splash wars with us. This includes the camera guy who, Jen called it, is a dead ringer for Jeff Spicolli from Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
As we went alongAlex pointed out different plants and animals including Green lizards, a crane, bats and we had our first Sloth siting (well Muma and I did....sadly Lisa and Jen didn't have a good angle.
We are proud of the fact we had the only boat no one fell out of! Muma and I fell into the boat but that's certainly better than out!
Once we got to the end they had beers waiting for us and we were off!
When we got back to the hotel there was a quick stop to make Jen and Muma appointments at the spa for tomorrow and then we went and changed and headed to the pool for drinks at the swim up bar. We were standing in the cool pool and, even though it was 78 degrees, we all decided we were cold so we headed to the heated pool.
We then decided it was time to break in the hot tub back in the room.
We had issues and had to call for help because we could figure out how to close the drain. 2 guys showed up and had to fix something outside and we were ready! It took a while to fill but it was well worth it!
We relaxed until it was time to get ready for dinner. We headed to the Italian restaurant. We hit the bar first (as one does on vacation) 😊
After dinner it was time to head home and go to bed. Big day tomorrow: zip lines in the AM then waterfall hike in the afternoon.
Now, I saved the best for last. When we came back to the room after rafting, we found this!
That's right, Grover riding a towel dog! This is the best thing that could ever happen!!!
Oh and Muma and Lisa had this on their bed
Not as good as Grover but still quality work!
