Today we leave Arenol and head to the Pacific coast - Guanacaste here we come!
Our plan is to hit up Las Hornillas along the way.
Before leaving we walked around a bit to take some photos of the hotel.

They put out flags for the countries people are visiting from
These are the horses by the guard gate
One of the hot springs
The cooler pool(did I mention they have a swim up sushi bar? Apparently that's a thing here- saw it at the other hotel as well)
The warm pool with swim up bar (where Jen gets her BBC's) - the water is low because the pool gets drained every night and hasn't opened yet
The meeting area
Some of the flowers
Dad's dream stock of firewood
So I put on my sloth driving hat,
Grover took his driving position,
And we were off!
I did GoPro part of the drive so you'll be able to see what the roads are like (in Arenal it's all steep hills and right curves).
Once again we saw numerous signs for the German Bakery so we decided to make a stop. Grover got his pretzel and cappuccino
After a few minor directional issues (darn new bridges going up) we found our way to Las Hornillas. It's a crater you can walk down into with mud baths.
Lisa, Muma and I headed down.
First we went into the mud baths and covered ourselves (because Lisa and I felt being covered in chocolate the night before was messy enough)
I should probably mention it smells really bad.
Once covered we walked around the crater while the mud dried. The crater is awesome. It still has bubbling hot spots and makes you feel like you're on Mars! There's still smoke rising out too.
There were also some animals in the area.
This guy did not like it when Lisa tried to kiss him:
So we set off. Along the way we noticed some fun painted rocks.
We arrived at the RIU hotel. Had some trouble figuring out parking. No one was there to help with bags so Lisa went I. To ask where to park. They told her the very front parking lot. I drove to the entrance and there were cones in front of it. So I drove around again and tried telling Jen to go back in but she was saying the other lot was open (she didn't hear Lisa's instructions on where to park). I finally decided to park on the street and go in myself. As I was parking a security guard on a bike came over and scared the crap out of me. My best guess is he was dying I couldn't park there. I drove around again and there was finally someone in front who said someone would move the cones. Already missing the Arenal Springs hotel.
We got our rooms and headed up to change into swimwear and it was off to the pool bar (I mean pool...).
We relaxed for a bit there and tried many a frozen beverage (frozen mojitos may be my favorite). Sadly they don't have Jen's BBC's but they will add banana to a mudslide if asked).
Muma and Lisa also told Jen to go ask some girl about her piercings. I had left the pool for a minute. Came back and Canadian Megan was apparently our new best friend. She was traveling alone on the last part of her trip so was very happy to talk to people - perhaps a bit too chatty but we survived.
We headed to shower, hit the buffet for dinner. Jen and I went to the Grease show. I met yet another Canadian guy at the bar who was in awe of the show....bit weird....
I walked down to the beach to check it out and then headed back to bed. Jen stayed out and apparently became part of a Canadian wedding (only Jen).
Tomorrow it's beach and cocktails!
